A closed STL in print position: standing, with the thick wall on the bed. White PLA, 100% infill, 0.1 mm layers.
FAQ
What people usually ask.
Why does dark get thick?
With light behind it, light passes through thin plastic and is blocked by thick plastic. So the piece is the photo's negative in thickness: shadow is thick wall, highlight is thin wall. Without backlight it looks like a grey relief — that is normal.
Which filament and settings?
Natural white PLA (no strong pigment), 100% infill, 0.1 to 0.12 mm layers, printed standing and slow. Translucent colours also work; black does not. The 0.8 mm minimum thickness is what a two-line wall can take.
Is the photo kept on a server?
It is never uploaded, not even to generate: the relief and the STL are computed in your browser. That is why it keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
What is the curved one for?
A curved lithophane stands on its own and fits a cylindrical lamp. The 180° one is a half round: an LED in the middle lights it evenly.
