Part bigger than the printer bed? How to split the STL into pieces and glue them

A cosplay helmet, a large vase, a fairing: the part is 40 cm and the bed is 22. The way out is to split the STL into pieces that fit, print them one at a time and glue. It takes a minute, with no modelling software.
How to split
- Open Split STL and drop the file. The mesh is read in your browser; it only goes to the server when you download.
- Pick your printer from the list (Ender 3, Bambu A1, P1S and X1C, A1 mini, Prusa MK4, Neptune 4) or type the plate size in millimetres.
- The tool divides the part into the smallest number of equal pieces that fit, and shows each one in a colour in the preview.
- Download the ZIP: one STL per piece, with the cut face capped.
Before splitting: rotate the part
The axes are the file's. A part lying down splits differently from one standing up. Open it in the slicer, rotate it to the position you will print, export, and only then split. The cutting plane lands where you expect and the piece count stays lower.
Where the cut looks best
- On a flat or hidden area. A seam on a curved, visible surface takes more sanding.
- Away from fine detail. A cut through a logo or a small edge makes the seam hard to align.
- With supports in mind. If the cut face can sit on the bed, the piece prints without support.
How to glue
The cut is flat, with no alignment pins. Cyanoacrylate (super glue) on the flat face holds well on PLA and PETG; for big parts, two-part epoxy gives more time to adjust. Line the pieces up on a flat surface, press for a minute and sand the seam afterwards. If you will paint, body filler hides the line.
What the tool guarantees
- The pieces add up to the original volume: the cut caps the new face instead of leaving a hole, and there is no saw kerf to remove.
- Limit of 250 MB per file and 64 pieces per split. A one-metre part on a 25 cm plate is four pieces along one axis.
- Each STL comes out with the right dimensions, which also lets you quote the print piece by piece.
